Pressure-relief mattresses & overlays, handled with care

Pressure injuries develop from sustained pressure over a bony prominence — sacrum, heels, hips, shoulder blades. They are far easier to prevent than to heal, and once one reaches full thickness it becomes a months-long wound care problem.

Support surfaces reduce or redistribute that pressure. Which one you need depends on your risk and, if there is already a wound, on its stage and location.

Support surfaces, group by group

Pressure-relief surfaces are grouped by how much they do. The group follows the skin risk.

Surface	What it is	Often used for	Worth knowing
Group 1: overlays and foam mattresses	A pad on, or a mattress in place of, a regular one.	Prevention for people at risk.	The usual starting point.
Group 2: alternating pressure and low air loss	Powered air cells that shift pressure.	Existing pressure injuries or very high risk.	Plans ask for the documented wound stage and a care plan.
Group 3: air-fluidized	A specialized therapy bed.	Large, complex pressure injuries.	Rare at home; strict criteria.

Is it covered?

Most of what we supply is a Medicare Part B benefit, and most Florida commercial plans and Medicare Advantage plans cover it too, when it is medically necessary and your prescriber has documented why you need it. Coverage is never automatic: it depends on your diagnosis, your plan, and what is written in your chart.

What we do about it: before we deliver your pressure-relief mattresses, we verify your benefits, tell you what your plan says your share will be, and chase any missing paperwork with your prescriber. If your plan will not cover it, we say so up front and quote you a private-pay price instead.

We are enrolled with Medicare as a DMEPOS supplier and we accept Florida Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and a broad list of commercial plans — see the full list.

Frequently asked questions

Which surface do I need?

That is a clinical judgment based on risk assessment and, if there is a wound, its stage and location. Broadly: foam and gel overlays for prevention and lower risk, alternating pressure for higher risk or existing injury, low-air-loss where moisture and heat also need managing. Your wound clinician decides; we supply.

Does the mattress replace turning?

No, and this misunderstanding causes real harm. A support surface extends the safe interval and reduces peak pressures. It does not remove the need for a repositioning schedule.

What about heels?

Heels need offloading, not just a mattress — the heel has almost no tissue over the bone and sits at high pressure. Heel protectors and offloading boots exist for exactly this and are cheap relative to a heel ulcer.

Do I need a prescription?

For anything billed to Medicare, Medicaid or a commercial plan, yes — and most plans also want chart notes showing why you need it. If you do not have an order yet, we can request one from your prescriber.

How do I know what my plan will pay?

We verify it before we ship and tell you what we found, including your expected share. We do not publish coverage amounts on this site because they vary by plan, by state and by year.

How fast can I get it?
