Bath safety & commodes, handled with care

The bathroom is where people fall. Hard surfaces, water, a low toilet, a high tub wall and nothing safe to hold. A hip fracture starts a chain of events that is very difficult to reverse in an older adult, and a grab bar costs almost nothing.

This is the part of the catalog with the best return on money spent, and it is chronically under-ordered.

Everyday use

A shower chair and a grab bar turn the most dangerous room in the house back into a place where someone can bathe privately and safely.

Is it covered?

Most of what we supply is a Medicare Part B benefit, and most Florida commercial plans and Medicare Advantage plans cover it too, when it is medically necessary and your prescriber has documented why you need it. Coverage is never automatic: it depends on your diagnosis, your plan, and what is written in your chart.

What we do about it: before we deliver your bath safety, we verify your benefits, tell you what your plan says your share will be, and chase any missing paperwork with your prescriber. If your plan will not cover it, we say so up front and quote you a private-pay price instead.

We are enrolled with Medicare as a DMEPOS supplier and we accept Florida Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and a broad list of commercial plans — see the full list.

We do not publish coverage amounts or fee-schedule figures on this site. Allowables differ by state, by plan and by year, and a number that is stale or from the wrong jurisdiction is worse than no number at all. Call us and we will quote your actual benefit.

What you will pay

With Medicare or your plan
We bill your plan directly
You owe only the share your plan sets · we bill a secondary when you have one
Private pay
A plain quote before anything ships
No insurance needed · brand-name or generic to fit the budget

We verify first. Before anything is delivered we tell you what your plan says your share will be. If the plan will not cover it, we say so and quote a private-pay price instead — you decide, nothing is sent on assumption.

Prefer to skip insurance? Private pay made easy

No insurance, or want it fast and simple? We quote a straightforward private-pay price, ship supplies anywhere in Florida and deliver equipment across Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade — no paperwork chase. Choose brand-name or lower-cost generic options to fit your budget.

Why Scotts

  • Family owned in Boca Raton since 2014 — you reach people who know the account, not a call center.

  • One point of contact from order to delivery to resupply.

What your order needs

Sending these together is the single biggest thing that shortens turnaround. Missing documentation, not policy, is what stalls most orders.

  • Most bath safety equipment is not covered by Medicare Part B — it is generally treated as a convenience or home-modification item rather than durable medical equipment. Commodes are the usual exception when the patient cannot reach the bathroom
  • Some Medicare Advantage plans include an over-the-counter or home-safety allowance that may include items like these. Check yours — a lot of people have that benefit and never use it
  • For private pay, no prescription is needed

Providers: fax to (800) 594-1226 or call (800) 304-7030. If something is missing we will call your office rather than sitting on it.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Medicare not cover a shower chair?
Because Part B durable medical equipment coverage is built around medical necessity in the home for treating an illness or injury, and bath safety items are generally classed as convenience or self-help items. It is a frustrating rule. The practical answer is that these items are inexpensive, and some Medicare Advantage plans do have an allowance that covers them.
Are suction grab bars safe?
Not for weight bearing. They are useful for balance in a limited way, and they fail without warning on textured or dirty tile. If you need something to take your weight, it needs to be screwed into a stud or a properly installed backing plate.
What height raised toilet seat?
Enough that hips are level with or slightly above knees when seated, which makes standing up far easier. Common heights are 2, 4 and 5 inches. If in doubt, and there is any risk of falling, a toilet safety frame with arms adds more than height alone.
Do you install grab bars?
Ask us. Installation into studs or tile is a different job from delivery and we will tell you what we can and cannot do rather than leaving a bar in a box.
Do I need a prescription?
For anything billed to Medicare, Medicaid or a commercial plan, yes — and most plans also want chart notes showing why you need it. If you do not have an order yet, we can request one from your prescriber.
How do I know what my plan will pay?
We verify it before we ship and tell you what we found, including your expected share. We do not publish coverage amounts on this site because they vary by plan, by state and by year.
How fast can I get it?
Private-pay and stocked supply items move quickly. Anything requiring prior authorization moves at the speed of your plan — we file it the same day and chase it, but the plan sets the clock.
Can you ship, or do you deliver?
Both. Recurring supplies ship to you anywhere in Florida. Equipment that needs setting up — beds, lifts, mattresses, chairs — we deliver and assemble across Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade.
