Walker & nebulizer closets

Stocked equipment on your unit, issued at the bedside, with the insurance work happening afterwards at our end.

The problem

A patient is medically ready to leave and cannot, because they need a walker and the walker needs an order, an insurance verification and a delivery. The bed stays occupied. The family waits. Everybody knows the equipment costs a fraction of the bed-day.

An equipment closet inverts the sequence: the patient gets the device now, and the paperwork follows.

How it works

1

Stocked on your unit

We place and maintain a stock of walkers, or nebulizers, in a closet on your floor.

2

Issued at the bedside

Your staff scan the patient in at the kiosk, record the issue, and the patient leaves with the device in hand.

3

We do the rest

Insurance intake, documentation and billing run afterwards at our end. We restock the closet.

The kiosk runs at walkers.scottsmedsupply.com.

What it changes

  • Discharges stop stalling on a piece of equipment that costs less than an hour of the bed.
  • Your staff stop making phone calls to arrange something they could hand over in ninety seconds.
  • Patients leave with the device rather than a promise that one will arrive.
  • Issuance is recorded, so you know what left the floor and with whom.

What we need from you

  • Somewhere secure to keep the stock.
  • Agreement on who may issue and how it is recorded.
  • A named contact for restocking.
  • The usual patient and insurance details captured at issuance, so intake can proceed.

Frequently asked questions

Who pays for the stock sitting in the closet?
We place and maintain it. The commercial arrangement is agreed with each facility — call us and we will set it out plainly rather than describing it vaguely on a web page.
What if the patient turns out not to be covered?
Then it becomes a private-pay or written-off item depending on the arrangement we have with you. That risk is the point of the model, and it is ours to carry, not the discharge planner's to worry about at the bedside.
Can we do this for other equipment?
Walkers and nebulizers are what the model suits — low cost, high frequency, no fitting required. Ask us about anything else and we will tell you whether it works.
How is it restocked?
On a schedule plus on demand. The kiosk tells us what has gone.

Not sure where to start?

Call us and tell us what happened — a surgery, a new diagnosis, a discharge date, a supply you keep running out of. We will tell you what is usually needed, check your benefits, and ask your prescriber for the order if you do not have one yet.
