Daily living aids

Reachers, dressing aids, adaptive utensils, bed rails and the small items that decide whether someone manages independently.

✓ We verify your benefits first 🚚 Delivered or shipped

Daily living aids in Palm Beach County — reachers, dressing aids, adaptive utensils and bed assist handles from Scotts Medical Supply, Boca Raton FL.

This is the least impressive category in the catalog and one of the most useful. A sock aid is faintly absurd until the day it is the reason someone can dress without help.

Brands

We stock, among others: Sammons Preston, Performance Health, Drive Medical, Stander, Compass Health. All brands we carry →

Brand availability changes. If your clinician specified a product, give us the manufacturer reference number and we will source that item rather than substituting an equivalent.

Is it covered?

Most of what we supply is a Medicare Part B benefit, and most Florida commercial plans and Medicare Advantage plans cover it too, when it is medically necessary and your prescriber has documented why you need it. Coverage is never automatic: it depends on your diagnosis, your plan, and what is written in your chart.

What we do about it: before we deliver your daily living aids, we verify your benefits, tell you what your plan says your share will be, and chase any missing paperwork with your prescriber. If your plan will not cover it, we say so up front and quote you a private-pay price instead.

We are enrolled with Medicare as a DMEPOS supplier and we accept Florida Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and a broad list of commercial plans — see the full list.

We do not publish coverage amounts or fee-schedule figures on this site. Allowables differ by state, by plan and by year, and a number that is stale or from the wrong jurisdiction is worse than no number at all. Call us and we will quote your actual benefit.

What your order needs

Sending these together is the single biggest thing that shortens turnaround. Missing documentation, not policy, is what stalls most orders.

  • Most daily living aids are not covered by insurance — they are classed as convenience or self-help items rather than durable medical equipment
  • Some Medicare Advantage plans have an over-the-counter allowance that covers them. It is worth checking, because a lot of people have this benefit and never spend it
  • For private pay, no prescription is needed

Providers: fax to (800) 594-1226 or call (800) 304-7030. If something is missing we will call your office rather than sitting on it.

Frequently asked questions

Are these covered?
Usually not by Medicare Part B. Some Medicare Advantage plans include an over-the-counter allowance that will cover them — check your plan's OTC catalog, it is one of the most under-used benefits in the system.
Which of these actually helps after a hip replacement?
The standard set is a reacher, a long-handled shoe horn, a sock aid, a long-handled sponge and a raised toilet seat — because you will be told not to bend past 90 degrees. Your occupational therapist will confirm. Order before surgery if you can.
Do bed rails count as a safety item?
Bed assist handles help a person get in and out of bed. Full bed rails on a hospital bed are a different item with entrapment risks and should be fitted to the bed they belong to, by us.
Do I need a prescription?
For anything billed to Medicare, Medicaid or a commercial plan, yes — and most plans also want chart notes showing why you need it. If you do not have an order yet, we can request one from your prescriber.
How do I know what my plan will pay?
We verify it before we ship and tell you what we found, including your expected share. We do not publish coverage amounts on this site because they vary by plan, by state and by year.
How fast can I get it?
Private-pay and stocked supply items move quickly. Anything requiring prior authorization moves at the speed of your plan — we file it the same day and chase it, but the plan sets the clock.
Can you ship, or do you deliver?
Both. Recurring supplies ship to you anywhere in Florida. Equipment that needs setting up — beds, lifts, mattresses, chairs — we deliver and assemble across Palm Beach and Broward.

Not sure where to start?

Call us and tell us what happened — a surgery, a new diagnosis, a discharge date, a supply you keep running out of. We will tell you what is usually needed, check your benefits, and ask your prescriber for the order if you do not have one yet.
